(EX) What does ATEX stand for?

ATEX is a French abbreviation (ATmosphère EXplosible). It comprises of two European Directives for explosion protection. The Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX95) for manufacturers specifies the requirements for equipment which is used in explosive atmospheres. The directive 1999/92/EC (ATEX137) is for operators and defines safety measures for the concerned personnel.
